13 digital nomad visas tie income rules to local wages, and 11 reset in 2027

Bulgaria's digital nomad visa will ask applicants for €31,010 a year ($34,709) from Jan. 1, up 12.6% from today's €27,533.07, without any change to the law. The bar is 50 times the previous year's monthly minimum wage, and Bulgaria's minimum wage rose to €620.20 this year.

Bulgaria is one of 13 digital nomad and remote-work visas whose income requirement is written as a multiple of a local wage rather than a fixed sum, a Stamped Nomad review of official sources found. Eleven of them reset during 2027. Two have no change scheduled. Remote workers sizing up a 2027 application should plan against the next figure, not the one on a consulate page today.

How wage pegs work

A fixed threshold stays put until a government rewrites the rule. A pegged threshold moves on its own: when the minimum wage or the statistics office's average salary changes, the income bar follows.

Eight of the 13 peg to a minimum wage. Albania's permit for remote workers asks for one minimum wage a month, Spain two, Portugal four. Three countries use three times the wage: Andorra's residence permit for nomads, Colombia's nomad visa and Montenegro's version. Ecuador's remote-work visa uses three basic wages a month, and Bulgaria counts 50 monthly wages a year.

The other five peg to average pay, which tends to climb faster. The Czech program wants 1.5 times the average gross salary and Slovenia twice the average net salary. Croatia's stay for digital nomads and Latvia's long-stay visa for remote work both use 2.5 times the previous year's average, net in Croatia and gross in Latvia. Romania's nomad visa sits highest at three times average gross pay. Latvia's bar rose 7.7% in March, and Croatia's is up 9.9% on its 2025 level.

What changes next

Slovenia

Slovenia's digital nomad route resets every month. The bar fell from €3,446.62 to €3,390.68 on Sept. 23, when the statistics office's July net average of €1,695.34 replaced June's €1,723.31. It can rise or fall with each release.

Bulgaria

Bulgaria's nomad visa is the only one with a confirmed 2027 figure. Applications in 2026 are measured against the 2025 minimum wage of 1,077 leva; from Jan. 1 the 2026 wage of €620.20 applies, giving €31,010 a year.

Portugal

The government's 2027 budget report, delivered in October, puts the minimum wage at €970, up from €920. That would lift the D8 visa to €3,880 a month. The figure stays a proposal until a government decree sets it, and unions are pushing for more.

Spain

Labor Minister Yolanda Díaz gave an expert panel three weeks on Oct. 8 to propose the 2027 minimum wage, which now stands at €1,221. The 2026 decree arrived Feb. 18 and applied from Jan. 1, so the figure on Spain's remote-work visa can change after the year starts. Some consulates spread the annual wage over 12 payments and ask €2,849 a month instead of €2,442.

Colombia

A 23% minimum wage increase for 2026 lifted the bar from 4,270,500 pesos to 5,252,715. Colombia's tripartite wage commission held its first session of the season on Oct. 1, but bargaining over the 2027 figure usually runs from late November. If the commission reaches no consensus by Dec. 15, the government must set the wage by decree by Dec. 30.

Czech Republic

The bar rose 6.6% on May 1, from 69,247 koruna, after the labor ministry published a new average gross salary of 590,580 koruna a year.

Albania

The biggest recent jump came from a rule change, not a wage. On April 15, Albania replaced a fixed 32,000 lek with the minimum wage, raising the bar 56% to 50,000 lek.

What applicants can do

Applicants close to the line gain the most by filing before a reset. In Bulgaria, a 2026 filing is tested against the lower 2025 wage. In the Czech Republic, the current figure holds until April 30, 2027.

Income must clear the new bar across the whole lookback period, not only at filing. Romania checks each of the last six months, Portugal averages the last three and Colombia reads three months of bank statements. A reset midway through that window can move the target for statements already in hand.

Family amounts move too. Croatia adds 10% of the average net salary per family member, and Spain adds 75% of the minimum wage for the first and 25% for each further member. Applicants with dependants should recalculate after every reset.
