By April 1, 2024, Indonesia had moved beyond broad digital-nomad promotion to a formal visa with strict work limits, income requirements and no automatic tax exemption.
E33G permits foreign remote work only
The E33G Remote Worker Visa allows stays of up to one year for people employed by companies outside Indonesia. Holders may enter and leave the country and make tourism or family visits during the visa’s validity.
The restriction is clear: E33G holders can’t work for Indonesian individuals or companies, receive payment from Indonesian sources or sell goods and services locally. Foreigners doing local work need a different authorization under Indonesia’s residency rules.
Applicants face a $60,000 income floor
The government fee is 7 million Indonesian rupiah (about $430). Applications go through Indonesia’s official eVisa system and require:
A passport valid for at least six months
A bank statement showing at least $2,000
A CV and travel itinerary
Proof of annual income of at least $60,000
An employment contract with a company outside Indonesia
The visa must be used to enter Indonesia within 90 days of issuance. Applicants traveling later need to time their filings so that approval doesn’t arrive more than 90 days before their planned entry.
The 183-day tax threshold still applies
E33G isn’t a tax-free nomad visa. A foreigner staying in Indonesia for more than 183 days in any 12-month period can become an Indonesian tax resident, bringing registration and filing obligations into play.
Some qualifying foreign nationals may receive territorial tax treatment for up to four years under existing tax regulations. That’s a limited administrative incentive, not a blanket exemption for remote workers and the official tax information reviewed shows no separate nomad tax holiday.
