Indonesia ends 1 to 3 day express processing for ITAS and ITAP permits

Indonesia scraps fast-track ITAS and ITAP processing

Indonesia ended all expedited processing for Limited Stay Permits (ITAS/KITAS) and Permanent Stay Permits (ITAP/KITAP), with Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra confirming the change to ANTARA on June 5. Applications that previously cleared in one to three days through "special payments" must now follow the standard four to five day timeline, with all fees deposited into the state treasury.

Side payments to immigration officers are now treated as extortion or gratification under anti-corruption law. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) alleges officials collected roughly IDR 145.5 billion through residence permit extortion between 2022 and 2026, the same announcement said. The cleanup sits under Immigration and Corrections Minister Agus Andrianto, part of a broader overhaul since President Prabowo Subianto formed the new cabinet.

Who feels the change

Foreign nationals holding or applying for any ITAS category are directly affected, including Work KITAS, Family KITAS, Student KITAS and Investor KITAS holders. ITAP applicants, mostly long-term residents and family-based permanent residents, lose the same express option.

Digital nomads and remote workers on investor or long-stay permits handled as limited stay permits can no longer pay agents for legal "express" processing tied to officer fees. Tourists on VoA or e-visas aren't directly affected, though anyone converting to a longer-stay permit or extending must follow standard timelines without a paid shortcut.

Planning around the new timelines

ITAS extension windows are now strictly enforced. Holders of one-year ITAS can only file 30 days before expiry, while ITAS valid for more than one year can be extended up to three months before expiry. Applications submitted earlier sit until the window opens and everything must be filed before the actual expiry date.

Circular Letter IMI-417.GR.01.01 of 2025 also requires foreign nationals extending stay permits to appear in person at the Immigration Office for photo and interview. Online filing runs through evisa.imigrasi.go.id, but the in-person step is mandatory.

Official fees follow Government Regulation No. 45 of 2024 and must go through formal channels. Any request for extra cash to skip the line should be flagged as extortion under the new posture.
