Foreigners overstaying any tourist visa, visa on arrival or limited stay permit must pay a daily fine of 1,000,000 rupiah ($64) for up to 60 days, France's consular service confirmed in updated travel advice. Immigration officials can block departure until all accrued fines are settled in full.

Stays that exceed the 60-day window result in formal expulsion. Deported visitors must pay their own removal expenses and face an entry ban from returning to the country. Those planning extended stays through Indonesia's entry rules must track permit expiration dates closely, because the daily penalty applies to individual passport holders regardless of visa type.

Arrival documentation and passport standards

Visitors entering the country must carry a passport valid for more than six months on the arrival date, with sufficient blank pages and no physical damage. Border authorities enforce strict document inspections across all air and sea ports.

Travelers must also complete the Satusehat digital declaration within 72 hours before landing. The online platform consolidates customs and health reporting into a single submission, generating a QR code that border personnel inspect upon arrival. Visitors heading to Bali must separately pay the provincial 150,000 rupiah tourist levy, payable online or at arrival counters.

Travelers should download and save the customs QR code directly to their device before boarding to avoid processing bottlenecks caused by airport Wi-Fi dead zones.
