Indonesia floods disrupt ferry and road access for Lombok tourists

Floods and landslides hit Lombok’s travel network
Severe floods and landslides hit parts of Indonesia from May 4-6, with North Lombok Regency among the hardest-hit areas. Flash flooding damaged roads and other infrastructure in Pemenang Subdistrict, including Menggala Village and Pemenang Barat Village and officials said the first North Lombok incident affected 212 people.
The National Board for Disaster Management, known as BNPB and regional agencies are still handling cleanup and recovery. West Nusa Tenggara, home to Lombok, was one of several provinces affected during the heavy-rain period.
Why nomads, tourists and expats should care
Lombok is a key stop for tourists and remote workers and the floods can disrupt ferry links from Bali, road access to rural areas and some local accommodation. The Bali to Lombok ferry route is the main connection for many travelers, so delays there can ripple into onward trips.
Travelers headed to the Gili Islands or northern Lombok should also watch for access problems near Bangsal and other coastal routes. Lodging, coworking spaces and airport connections may be operating unevenly in affected zones.
What to check before you go
Verify ferry schedules directly with operators before booking and confirm road access if you plan to travel outside main towns. Contact hotels, villas or coworking spaces by email or online message to make sure they’re open.
Monitor BNPB and BMKG updates, then check with your airline or ferry company for changes. Read our full Indonesia guide for the complete picture and keep an eye on visa updates if your trip is tied to a longer stay.
