Indonesia hikes naturalization fee 50% to Rp 75 million on Aug. 1

Indonesia's naturalization fee jumps 50% to Rp 75 million ($4,600) on Aug. 1, part of a broader hike to citizenship charges under Government Regulation No. 30/2026.

The new fee schedule

The regulation, signed July 2, replaces PP No. 45/2024 and covers every citizenship-related payment to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Applications lodged before Aug. 1 still fall under the old tariffs.

• Standard naturalization: Rp 75 million ($4,600), up from Rp 50 million
• Citizenship through marriage: Rp 25 million ($1,530), up from Rp 15 million
• Dual-national children choosing Indonesian citizenship: Rp 2 million ($122), up from Rp 1 million
• Renouncing Indonesian citizenship: Rp 5 million ($305), up from Rp 1 million
• Regaining Indonesian citizenship: Rp 1 million ($61), unchanged

The regulation also scraps the Rp 2.5 million discounted rate that applied to foreigners naturalized for services rendered to the state or on national-interest grounds. Those cases now default to the full Rp 75 million.

What it costs a nomad going long

For a remote worker already several years into life in Bali or Jakarta, the naturalization route just got Rp 25 million more expensive. That's roughly six months of rent on a mid-range villa in Canggu or a full year of BPJS health contributions for a small family, absorbed into a single application fee.

A foreign spouse of an Indonesian citizen pursuing citizenship faces a Rp 10 million jump, pushing that path past the $1,500 mark for the first time. Mixed-nationality families with children reaching the age of election for Indonesia's citizenship rules will pay double, though at Rp 2 million the absolute cost stays modest.

What's not changing

The underlying eligibility rules under the Citizenship Law aren't touched: residency thresholds, Indonesian-language competence and integration requirements stay as they were. Tourist visas, KITAS work permits and the second-home visa also sit outside PP 30/2026 and follow separate immigration fee schedules.

The short version for nomads on temporary stays: nothing changes at the border. The bill only lands if and when the plan turns into a citizenship application.
