India resumed routine tourist visa processing in Bangladesh on June 28, ending a suspension that lasted nearly two years.

Five IVACs handle applications

Tourist applications are available through Indian Visa Application Centres in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna. Routine cases aren’t accepted directly by the High Commission of India in Dhaka.

The five-center rollout is the first phase. Visa operators are adding staff and appointment capacity after a surge in demand, while services may later expand to other locations across Bangladesh.

Appointments and documents are required

Applicants must complete India’s online visa form, select an IVAC and book an appointment. Walk-ins generally aren’t accepted.

Typical requirements include:

• A passport valid for at least six months with two blank pages
• A signed application form, recent photo and national ID copy
• Proof of address, funds and occupation or student status
• A return ticket or travel itinerary
• Old passports, when available

Applicants submit documents and biometrics at the appointment, then track the case online. Standard processing commonly takes four to seven working days, though timing can vary as centers manage demand.

For Bangladeshi nationals, India’s government tourist visa fee remains zero, but IVAC charges a processing fee. Travelers planning near-term trips need to secure an appointment at one of the five operating centers and build the processing window into their departure date.

Foreign residents face an eligibility check

The reopening primarily covers Bangladeshi nationals traveling for tourism, family visits, shopping or religious trips. Foreign residents, including expats and nomads covered by Bangladesh’s residency rules, may be able to apply through an IVAC if they hold valid local residence status.

Eligibility for third-country nationals depends on the Indian visa portal and IVAC instructions. Those applicants should confirm their filing location and document requirements before booking an appointment.
