Vietnam issues 90-day multiple-entry e-visas and 45-day waivers

Expanded stay lengths and e-visa terms

Under regulations adopted by the National Assembly, foreign travelers can secure 90-day e-visas valid for single or multiple entries through the national electronic visa system. The shift eliminated the previous 30-day limit, permitting remote workers and visitors to exit and re-enter without filing fresh paperwork each month.

The government charges $25 for single-entry electronic permits and $50 for multiple-entry options, the U.S. Embassy confirmed. Travelers from countries with unilateral exemption agreements receive 45 days on arrival at designated international border gates, up from the former 15-day cap.

Tiered residence and digital identity rules

Foreigners settling in Vietnam under long-term arrangements face tiered Temporary Residence Card (TRC) durations tied to their status and investment scale. Law No. 118/2025/QH15, which took effect July 1, 2026, governs foreign entry, exit and residence alongside amended investor categories.

TRC limits vary across specific designations:

• DT1, UD1 and UD2 cards for major investors: valid for up to 10 years.

• NG3, LV1, LV2 and DH cards: valid for up to five years.

• NN1, NN2 and TT family cards: valid for up to three years.

• LD work permits and PV1 press credentials: valid for up to two years.

Under Decree No. 69/2024/ND-CP, lawful foreign residents can obtain state electronic identification accounts, enabling them to complete administrative procedures online.

Application steps and border gate compliance

Nomads planning extended itineraries must verify entry points before booking travel, as e-visas are accepted at only 42 designated international border gates. Processing occurs entirely online through the national portal prior to arrival. TRC applicants must also ensure their passport validity exceeds their requested card duration by at least 30 days when submitting renewal paperwork.
