Thailand courts Indian visitors as Chinese numbers slide

Thailand is keeping its 60-day visa-free entry for Indian passport holders in place, with an optional 30-day extension available at immigration offices. The change took effect Feb. 13, 2026 and travelers still need a valid passport, proof of lodging, a return ticket and the Thailand Digital Arrival Card submitted 3 days before arrival.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is now targeting more than 2.55 million Indian visitors in 2026, up from 2.48 million in 2025. Officials are pairing the visa policy with wellness and high-value travel campaigns, including "Healing is the New Luxury" and "Value is the New Volume".
Who stands to benefit from the shift
Indian tourists get the clearest upside. Thailand is making entry easier and pushing higher-end experiences, spas and cultural trips that fit longer stays and more spending per visit.
Chinese arrivals are moving the other way. Safety worries tied to scams and crime have weighed on confidence and Thai officials have responded with "Trusted Thailand" messaging, more tourist police support and surveillance at attractions. Digital nomads and other foreign visitors could also feel spillover effects if Thailand moves ahead with a proposed 300-baht tourism tax.
What travelers need to line up
Indian visitors can stay up to 60 days without a visa, then apply for an extension if they want to remain longer. The paperwork is simple, but the arrival card is mandatory and should be filed online before departure.
Remote workers who want a longer base can look at the Destination Thailand Visa, a 5-year multiple-entry option that allows stays of 180 days per visit for applicants with foreign income. Read our full Thailand guide for the complete picture and nomad news for the latest updates.
