Thailand airport fees jump 50% to 1,120 baht starting June 20

Thailand’s travel costs are climbing
Thailand is still open to visitors, but baht strength, higher airfares and raised airport fees are pushing up trip costs. ATTA said the country’s tourism sector is facing a “double hit” from currency moves and flight prices and it now expects 30 million to 32 million foreign arrivals in 2026.
The baht has stayed strong against the dollar, making Thailand pricier for travelers paid in foreign currency. Airlines have also cut some routes or reduced frequencies, while fares are rising as fuel and operating costs stay high.
Who feels it most
Tourists will see the biggest hit on flights and everyday spending. ATTA said higher prices are already weighing on bookings and discretionary purchases, while business travel and MICE trips into Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Samui are facing more disruption and fewer direct options.
Expats and digital nomads are getting squeezed too. Rent, food and imported goods become more expensive when the baht climbs and regional travel gets costlier when round-trip fares rise and connections replace direct flights.
What changes next
The sharpest fixed cost is coming from airports. Thailand’s main international airports will raise the passenger service charge on departing flights from 730 baht to 1,120 baht on June 20, a jump of more than 50% that will be baked into ticket prices.
Travelers booking Thailand trips now should check fare breakdowns closely and factor in the stronger baht when budgeting. For ongoing updates on travel rules and costs, see our nomad news and Thailand guide for the complete picture.
