Singapore residents can now push money into a WeChat wallet in China for zero fees, with some transfers landing in about a minute.
Zero-fee routes replace higher-cost remittance channels
DBS opened its DBS Remit to Weixin Pay service to Singaporeans, permanent residents and foreigners residing in Singapore on June 5, 2026, after an earlier February rollout limited to local citizens and PRs. Both DBS and MariBank describe the service as carrying no transfer fees, with MariBank running a fee waiver through June 30, 2026, per secondary reporting.
That undercuts the typical remittance corridor to China, which has historically charged flat wire fees of roughly S$10 to S$30 per transfer plus an FX spread. TenPay Global, Tencent's cross-border arm powering the link, said in a July 17, 2026 update that funds can arrive in as little as one minute through partner networks including DBS, Panda Remit and Western Union.
What it means for a nomad's monthly cost
For a foreigner based in Singapore sending S$2,000 a month to a Weixin wallet in China, dropping a S$15 wire fee saves S$180 a year. Someone routing salary or family support closer to S$5,000 monthly through a bank wire at S$25 a pop saves S$300 a year, before accounting for the tighter FX pricing bank-run rails typically offer over cash-based remittance shops.
The MAS backdrop matters here. MAS Notice PSN11, in force since Oct. 1, 2024, restricts China-bound remittances to banks, card networks and licensed China payment institutions, which is why the current wave of zero-fee options runs through regulated bank apps rather than informal transfer agents. Anyone weighing a move should factor this into the broader cost picture in the Singapore guide.
Setup, limits and the fine print
DBS users add the recipient under the Overseas Transfers tab in digibank and must complete passport verification in the app. A 12-hour cooling period applies before the first payment to a new recipient and the receiving side has to create a Recipient Card in the Weixin mini program for funds to land.
Per-transaction limits for the June 2026 DBS route aren't published in a single figure. For reference, OCBC's older Weixin and Alipay service capped transfers at CNY 50,000 per day and CNY 300,000 annually to wallet recipients, which is the ballpark expats should plan around until DBS publishes its own ceilings.
