France Keeps Passeport Talent Fast-Tracked for Skilled Workers

France’s Passeport Talent is still the country’s main fast-track route for skilled workers, researchers, founders and certain company hires and it now runs through a cleaner system after the 2025 immigration reforms. The pitch is simple, honestly: a multi-year residence permit that can last up to 4 years, skips the labor market test and can cut hiring delays by as much as 50% for eligible employers.

The newer Passeport Talent Monde path folds several skilled-worker routes into one process, which, surprisingly, is meant to make France easier to enter for talent in tech, research, healthcare and innovation. It’s still a work-and-reside permit, not a casual stay option, so the rules stay strict even if the paperwork is lighter.

Who it affects
This matters most for non-EU professionals with a degree, a solid job offer or a research post and it’s also a real option for entrepreneurs with funding or investment plans. Families get a break too, because spouses and minor children can usually apply through Talent-Family cards instead of a separate reunification route.

Digital nomads should pay attention, frankly, because France has said remote work on visitor visas isn’t allowed, so anyone working from France needs the right status, not a loophole.

What to do
Expect to start with a long-stay visa (VLS-TS) at a French consulate, then validate it online within 3 months of arrival. After that, the residence permit step usually takes around 4 months, though prefecture timing can vary and the full process often lands in the 4- to 6-month range.

The visa fee is €99 and residence permit issuance is currently €225 total, though fee changes are set to kick in on May 1, 2026.
