Egypt Doubles Per-Visit Stay Limit for the $700 Five-Year Visa

The program/policy , Egypt’s five-year multiple-entry visa now allows a 180-day stay per visit, up from 90 days and the shift has been in effect since September 2025. Travelers can ask for a tourist residence card on arrival and it stays valid through exits and re-entry during that stay window, which, honestly, makes the whole setup far less annoying for long-haul visitors.
The visa is aimed at nationals from about 180 countries, costs around $700 and doesn’t cap how many times you can enter during the five-year validity. Short-term tourists still use separate e-visas or visa on arrival options, so this is really the better lane for people planning a longer base in Egypt.
Who it affects , Digital nomads, expats, retirees, business travelers and investors get the most value here, because the extra time cuts out the old exit-and-re-enter routine. That matters in practice, turns out, for remote workers who want to stay put in Cairo, Alexandria or the Red Sea without constantly watching the calendar.
It’s also useful for travelers with Egyptian ties or anyone testing a longer stay before making a bigger move and the lower cost of living is still a big part of the draw. Egypt doesn’t have a dedicated nomad visa, but this policy does a lot of the same work.
What to do , Apply through an Egyptian embassy, consulate or the e-Visa portal, then arrive with a passport valid for 6+ months, photos and your itinerary. If you’re using the five-year visa, request the residence card on arrival, because that’s what unlocks the longer stay and you don’t want to sort it out after you’re already in-country.
- Five-year visa: about $700
- Standard tourist visa: $25 single-entry, $60 multiple-entry
- Max stay per visit: 180 days
