Egypt sets $15 flat administrative fee for all visas starting Jan. 1

Egypt will apply a flat $15 administrative fee across all entry and transit visas beginning Jan. 1, 2027, standardizing border and consular processing costs.

A 25% increase on border administrative fees

Under Decree No. 2553 of 2026 published Aug. 30, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly established the unified charge to eliminate conflicting fee structures across different ports. The update represents a 25% increase over the $12 administrative levy set for 2026, creating a single baseline across all missions and crossing points.

The $15 surcharge is charged alongside standard visa fees rather than replacing base application rates. Foreign arrivals must pay the fee in US dollars or the local foreign currency equivalent at airports, land borders, seaports and Egyptian embassies abroad.

Budget impact across border runs and stays

The unified fee applies to all foreign nationals requiring visas or consular processing, including:

• Entry visas: Remote workers and tourists purchasing visas on arrival or via consulates abroad.

• Transit visas: Passengers passing through Egyptian ports on layovers that require crossing border control.

• Consular services: Foreign citizens submitting paperwork for select visa extensions or consular certifications.

For remote workers managing their stays under Egypt's entry regulations, the $15 levy adds a small, fixed cost to each arrival.
