Five renewal streams moved online July 7

Cyprus opened digital renewals for five categories of third-country residence permits on July 7, 2026, ending a fully in-person process for the eligible streams, the government announced July 6. Applicants, employers and authorized agents can now file through Gov.cy using a verified CY Login account instead of queueing at Migration Department counters for every step.

The switch covers renewals only. Initial applications still run through the old channels and the announcement makes no mention of the digital nomad permit, so nomads on that route see no change to their renewal process.

What the online service actually covers

The five eligible renewal streams are:

• Remunerated Employment temporary residence permits
• Domestic Employment temporary residence permits
• Temporary permits for employees in Companies of Foreign Interests
• Family Reunification permits for family members of Long-Term Residents and Companies of Foreign Interests employees
• Long-Term Resident residence permits

The portal handles application submission, document upload, representative authorization, status tracking, electronic fee payment and service-point selection. Prescribed fees are charged online after review and the announcement did not publish new fee amounts. Employment-based renewals generally require the applicant to stay with the same employer, per the category rules.

Physical presence is still mandatory where signatures or biometrics are required, so the process is hybrid rather than fully remote. Third-country nationals with expiring permits outside these five streams gain nothing from this rollout and continue on the existing in-person track.

Who needs to act and when

Anyone holding one of the five permits should file at least one month before expiry, per standing Migration Department guidance. That deadline hasn't changed, but the online channel removes the appointment bottleneck for document submission and payment, which had been the slowest step for renewals tied to Companies of Foreign Interests staff and Long-Term Residents.

Employers running teams under the Companies of Foreign Interests regime can now batch-file employee renewals through a single CY Login rather than sending HR to counters case by case. Anyone still without a verified CY Login profile should set one up before their renewal window opens, because the account verification itself takes time and there's no paper fallback inside the new digital flow. Long-term residents weighing next steps can cross-check requirements against the broader rules for settling in Cyprus before filing.

The government calls this the first package of Migration Department digital services, with more categories planned.
