Bangladesh’s 300% Visa Push Cuts Waits for India Trips

Visa desks are moving faster

India and Bangladesh have, honestly, sped up visa processing after a long suspension and a messy restart, with many applicants now seeing approvals in 7-15 working days while backlogs clear. The broader reset is still rolling out and full normal service for tourist, student, business, medical and multiple-entry visas is expected to keep opening through June 2026.

The biggest shift is capacity, not hype. Indian missions in Bangladesh are adding 300% more visa slots, senior applicants 65 and older can use walk-in access for some categories and multiple-entry business and tourist visas are coming back, which, surprisingly, is the part most frequent travelers will feel first.

Who gets the lift

Medical travelers are the clearest winners, because Bangladeshis heading to hospitals in Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru have had some of the sharpest delays and faster medical processing should ease that pressure. Students admitted to Indian universities, expats handling family-reunion cases and business travelers needing longer-validity visas also stand to benefit.

Tourists get a real payoff too. Trips to Cox’s Bazar, the Sundarbans and cross-border city visits should get less painful, though the system still isn’t fully back to normal, so don’t expect same-week miracles everywhere, frankly.

What to do before you book

Apply early, because the backlog is still being cleared and the safest rule is to submit at least three weeks before travel. Bring a passport with 6+ months validity, proof of funds, return tickets, hotel bookings and invitation letters if your category needs one, then check whether your mission is still asking for extra paperwork.

The e-Visa for Bangladeshi passport holders is still suspended, so don’t assume online approval is back. Use the official mission channels and keep an eye on visa updates because this rollout is still evolving.
