Understanding Thailand’s Digital Arrival Card and Entry Rules

Thailand has fully transitioned away from paper-based entry forms in favor of the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). While early rumors suggested a complex Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) was on the horizon, the TDAC is the current standard for all non-Thai nationals entering the country by air, land, or sea.

The system functions as a digital security and health declaration. Travelers must submit their details online through the official portal up to three days before arrival. The process is free and requires passport information, flight or travel details, and accommodation addresses. Once completed, you receive a digital confirmation to present to immigration officers.

Who is affected

This requirement applies to everyone, including digital nomads and tourists utilizing the 60-day visa exemption. While 93 nationalities currently enjoy this 60-day stay, the government has ramped up enforcement against those attempting to live in the country long-term via "border runs."

If you are entering via a land border, you are strictly limited to two visa-exempt entries per calendar year. Immigration officers are now more frequently requesting proof of onward travel and evidence of sufficient funds for those with a history of frequent stays.

What you need to do

To ensure a smooth entry, follow these steps:

• Complete the TDAC registration online before you head to the airport or border.
• Download the confirmation email or save the QR code to your phone.
• If you plan to stay longer than 60 days, visit an immigration office to apply for a 30-day extension for a fee of 1,900 THB.
• Ensure you have a printed copy of your onward flight and proof of accommodation, as facial recognition systems and stricter manual checks are now standard at major hubs.
