United States Global Entry arrivals skip 30 day alien registration requirement

Noncitizens visiting the United States no longer need to file a separate registration form during extended stays if they entered through a Trusted Traveler Program.

Trusted traveler entry counts as legal registration

Under federal rules finalized June 29, the Department of Homeland Security expanded acceptable proof of alien registration under 8 CFR 264.1(b) to include CBP-approved documents from Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST.

Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, noncitizens aged 14 and older who stay in the country for 30 days or more must register with the government. While DHS mandated online Form G-325R filings and biometrics under an April 11, 2025 interim framework, visitors processed directly through a trusted traveler kiosk or lane are now legally treated as pre-registered.

The entry method determines who must file Form G-325R

The exemption requires that a traveler's most recent border crossing was processed directly through one of the four trusted traveler programs. Holding a Global Entry or NEXUS membership isn't enough on its own; noncitizens who entered through standard inspection lanes must possess an issued Form I-94 or registered visa to bypass the requirement.

Remote workers reviewing regulations for visiting the United States must track several key exceptions. Noncitizens staying past 30 days who entered without formal inspection, visa-exempt Canadian citizens crossing land borders without an I-94 or trusted traveler pass and children who turn 14 during a U.S. visit must still file Form G-325R online through myUSCIS.

Carrying proof and reporting address changes

Those required to file Form G-325R must complete the electronic application and attend an Application Support Center fingerprinting appointment if scheduled by USCIS.

Once approved, adults aged 18 and older must carry a printed or electronic copy of the Proof of G-325R Registration notice at all times to comply with federal documentation rules.

Anyone who files the registration must also report a change of address within 10 days of moving through their online account.
