The program’s status today

Argentina’s planned citizenship by investment program is still on the books, but the government has paused the procurement step needed to run it. On April 14, 2026, the Ministry of Economy issued Resolution 522/2026, which voided the tender for a master agent after bidder challenges and concerns about the bid’s scope, the ministry said.

The underlying legal framework from Decree 366/2025 and Decree 524/2025 remains in place. That means Argentina still has a path for naturalization tied to “relevant” investment, with no residency requirement, but there's no operating application process yet.

Who is affected right now

Prospective investors are the main group left waiting. The program was being shaped for wealthy applicants seeking fast-track citizenship and Mercosur mobility, but the cancellation of the tender means no one can apply through a live system at the moment.

Current tourists and digital nomads aren't affected by this specific move. Argentina’s existing short-term stay options remain unchanged and traditional residency routes for expats continue separately from the investment citizenship plan. For broader visa updates, this is still a hold, not a launch.

What applicants should watch next

There is no new timetable for applications. A relaunch would require either a fresh tender or an in-house setup and that could push any opening to late 2026 or later.

Bidders on the canceled tender had a 20- to 30-business-day window to appeal. Until the government names a new operator or confirms an internal rollout, the citizenship-by-investment program remains unfinished.
