Spain Adjusts Income Requirements for Digital Nomads
Spain has updated the income requirements for its Digital Nomad Visa for 2026, setting the minimum monthly threshold at €2,849. The new rules also include a 75% income increase for the first dependent and stricter documentation standards for applicants.
Spain Adjusts Income Requirements for Digital Nomads
Spain has updated the financial thresholds for its popular remote work visa to reflect the country’s recent 3.1% increase in the national minimum wage. Applicants must now demonstrate a monthly income of at least €2,849 to qualify for the permit.
The new rules, which took effect on January 1, 2026, apply to all non-EU citizens earning income from employers or clients based outside of Spain. While the baseline has risen, the Ministry of Inclusion and Migration is offering a short grace period. Consulates will continue to accept 2025 income proofs of €2,763 per month for any applications submitted before February 28, 2026.
Scaling Costs for Families
The income requirements scale significantly for those relocating with dependents. If you are bringing a spouse or partner, you must show an additional 75% of the minimum wage. For a family of three, the monthly requirement jumps to €4,275.
These figures are tied to the statutory minimum wage, meaning they will likely continue to climb annually. Experts suggest that further increases may arrive in early 2027 as the Spanish government aims to align the minimum wage with 60% of the national average pay.
Eligibility and Application Steps
To secure the visa, you must prove that at least 80% of your income originates from outside Spain. The program remains a favorite for high earners due to the "Beckham" tax regime, which offers a 15% flat tax on the first €600,000 of income for up to five years.
If you are preparing an application, focus on these visa updates and requirements:
- Gather signed work agreements or employment contracts.
- Provide three to six months of bank statements.
- Secure private health insurance with full coverage in Spain.
- Ensure your headline salary accounts for currency conversion fees, as auditors often flag net amounts that fall just below the threshold.
