Singapore Rolls Out ONE Pass AI Track and Work Pass Updates

Singapore is doubling down on its bid to lead the global tech race. In a recent move to attract high-tier talent, the government has introduced a specialized ONE Pass (AI and Tech) track. This new pathway replaces the previous Tech.Pass and is specifically designed to lure founders, C-suite executives, and technical experts who can drive innovation in artificial intelligence.

The criteria are strict but reflect the city-state's focus on high-value growth. Applicants must earn at least S$30,000 monthly, though Singapore now allows for more flexible compensation packages. Up to S$7,500 of that requirement can come from vested stock options or shares, provided the base cash salary remains at least S$22,500. Additionally, candidates need five years of relevant experience and must work for companies with a valuation of at least US$500 million or annual revenue of US$200 million.

Outside of the tech elite, broader changes are coming to Singapore's employment landscape. Minimum salary requirements for Employment Passes (EP) will rise to S$6,000 (S$6,600 for financial services) in January 2027. S Pass thresholds are also increasing to S$3,600. These adjustments scale upward based on the applicant's age, ensuring that foreign labor remains high-quality and competitive.

For digital nomads and high-earning remote workers, the ONE Pass remains the "gold standard" because it does not require local sponsorship. This allows for significant flexibility to move between projects or start new ventures without the typical administrative hurdles.

If you are looking to apply for the new AI track, the application window opens in January 2027 via the Ministry of Manpower website. Current ONE Pass holders or those on the expiring Tech.Pass should review their eligibility to transition under the new compensation rules. Meanwhile, companies hiring for roles in food services or air transportation can look forward to an expanded Non-Traditional Source (NTS) Occupation List starting in September 2026.
