Poland travelers avoid ETIAS as EU delays launch beyond 2026 target

| Official Target | 2,026 |
|---|---|
| Projected Delay | 2,027 |
Visa-exempt travelers arriving in Poland will continue under current Schengen entry rules, with no ETIAS authorization required at check-in or the border.
No application is open
The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) isn’t operational and the European Union isn’t collecting applications. Travelers from visa-exempt countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Japan, don’t need to complete an extra online step before visiting Poland.
The practical move is simple: Don’t apply or pay for ETIAS yet. An official website and mobile app will accept applications only after the system goes live.
The late 2026 timetable is unsettled
The official ETIAS website has removed its late-2026 launch target and now says the EU will publish a start date several months in advance, ETIAS.com reported in July. Financial Times reporting cited by Euronews and specialist travel outlets indicates the rollout is likely slipping into 2027 because the agency building the system no longer considers a 2026 start feasible.
The EU hasn’t formally confirmed a 2027 date. Some European Commission and EU delegation pages still say ETIAS will begin in the last quarter of 2026, leaving the public timetable inconsistent.
Who will need ETIAS later
Once active, ETIAS will apply to visa-exempt non-EU nationals taking short trips to Poland and the wider Schengen Area. It will be a passport-linked travel authorization, not a visa, for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Travelers will apply online before boarding. Long stays and residence remain outside the ETIAS system and instead fall under Poland’s residency rules.
