Nicaragua waives visas for HKSAR holders as Hong Kong reciprocity starts Aug. 26

Nicaragua has moved HKSAR passport holders from visa-required travel to visa-free visits of up to 30 days, while Hong Kong’s reciprocal waiver for Nicaraguan nationals begins Aug. 26.

Nicaragua access is already available

HKSAR passport holders can now enter Nicaragua without a visa for travel or other short stays lasting no more than 30 days. Hong Kong’s Immigration Department described the access as available “now” in its July 27 announcement.

The notice doesn’t list a fee for visa-free entry. It raises the number of countries and territories granting HKSAR passport holders visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 178, the department said.

Admission isn’t guaranteed. Destination immigration authorities retain the final decision at the border and travelers should confirm current conditions through official government websites, diplomatic missions or airlines before departure.

Hong Kong reciprocity begins Aug. 26

The two sides aren’t implementing the arrangement simultaneously. Nicaraguan nationals become eligible for visa-free visits to Hong Kong of up to 30 days on Aug. 26.

Nicaraguan passport holders arriving before that date aren’t covered by the waiver. Those travelers must check Hong Kong’s existing entry rules and obtain any required permission before departure.

The waiver doesn’t grant work rights

The arrangement covers travel and short stays. It doesn’t create a remote-work permit or authorize employment, residence or stays beyond 30 days in either jurisdiction.

Longer stays remain subject to separate immigration routes, including Nicaragua’s residency rules. Nomads can use the waiver for short visits, but they still need the appropriate authorization before living or working locally.

Hong Kong granted the Solomon Islands the same reciprocal 30-day arrangement in the July 27 announcement, with Hong Kong’s waiver for Solomon Islands nationals likewise beginning Aug. 26.
