Malaysia flash floods trap 8 vehicles and block roads on May 8

Heavy rain swamped Klang Valley roads
Flash floods hit the Klang Valley on May 8 after rain fell from noon into the evening, with some Kuala Lumpur streets seeing water rise to about 1.2 meters. MetMalaysia issued a thunderstorm warning at 7:20 p.m. and severe weather was expected through 10 p.m.
Ampang and Gombak took the hardest hit
The worst-hit Kuala Lumpur areas included Ampang, Sungai Besi, Gombak and Batu Caves, all of which are popular with expats and international renters. Fallen trees added to the mess, while floodwater trapped eight vehicles and blocked roads near the Kuchai Lama MRT station and along the New Pantai Expressway.
Petaling Jaya also reported flooding in several commercial sections, disrupting businesses and traffic across the wider city.
What travelers and residents should check
The NPE closed Kuchai Link from Sungai Besi to Jalan Klang Lama, with left and centre lanes blocked near Km18.9, while emergency crews handled rescue work and traffic control. If youβre moving around Kuala Lumpur, check live road notices and weather alerts before heading out, since heavy rain can overwhelm drainage fast in low-lying areas.
