Looser visa rules drive Philippines visitor numbers to 3.7 million through July

The Philippines moved Indian visitors from advance visas to 14-day visa-free entry on June 8, 2025, then extended the same short-stay access to Chinese visitors on Jan. 16.

Arrivals reached 3.7 million through July

The Philippines recorded 3.7 million international arrivals from January through July, up 4.25% from the same period last year, the Department of Tourism reported. The agency linked much of the increase to looser visa rules and added flight capacity.

China posted 67% growth, while arrivals from India rose 34% and Taiwan increased 11.21%. The United States remained the largest source market, with 581,565 visitors in the first half of the year, followed by continued growth from Canada and Japan.

India and China get shorter visa-free stays

Indian passport holders can enter for 14 days without a visa for tourism or business. Indians with valid visas or residence permits from the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, the Schengen Area, Singapore or the United Kingdom can receive 30 days, though that option is limited to tourism.

Chinese passport holders receive 14 days for tourism or business but must enter through Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila or Mactan-Cebu International Airport. Both countries’ short-stay privileges are nonextendible and nonconvertible.

Taiwan’s documented visa-free arrangement covered July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. The cited government circular doesn’t establish an extension beyond that date.

Longer stays still require different planning

Travelers from the United States, Canada, Japan and many other countries generally receive 30 days visa-free under Executive Order No. 408. Entry requires a passport valid for at least six months beyond the stay and a return or onward ticket; more detail appears in the Philippines guide.

Indian and Chinese visitors planning trips longer than their permitted 14 or 30 days must obtain the appropriate visa before travel because their visa-free stays can’t be extended or converted into work, retirement or residence status.
