This policy shift primarily benefits expats and skilled professionals currently living in Hong Kong under employment or talent-based visas. It also covers their dependants, provided the renewal is filed alongside the principal applicant.
While Hong Kong does not have a dedicated digital nomad visa, remote workers who have secured residency through the QMAS or GEP schemes will find this update helpful for maintaining their legal status. If your visa is set to expire soon, you can now start the renewal process three months in advance. Applicants must be physically present in Hong Kong at the time of submission. The process remains digital, with applications submitted via the Immigration Department’s online portal.
