Croatia Airlines cuts 900 flights and drops 6 routes this summer

What Croatia Airlines is trimming this summer

Croatia Airlines is cutting about 900 flights over the next three months or roughly 5% of its planned 27,000 operations, after jet fuel prices doubled because of Middle East conflicts. Chief Commercial Officer Slaven Žabo said the airline is taking the hit despite strong passenger demand.

The carrier is also reshaping its summer network. It will drop six routes, including Split-Bucharest, Split-Amsterdam and Zagreb-Tirana and reduce frequencies on other services tied to Split and Dubrovnik. Even with the cuts, the airline still plans up to 100 daily flights, Žabo said in an RTL Croatia interview.

Who feels the cuts most

Tourists, expats and digital nomads heading to Croatia’s coast are the most likely to feel the changes. Fewer flights to Split and Dubrovnik can mean tighter seat supply, higher fares and less flexibility on regional routes during peak season.

Travelers coming from Germany, Hungary and other European markets may find fewer options as airlines protect the routes that earn more. Croatia is still seeing strong demand, but some of that demand will now be harder to meet on the cheapest or least frequent flights. For broader coverage, see our nomad news.

What affected passengers can do

Passengers on canceled flights are covered by EU261. That can mean a refund, rerouting or compensation of up to €600 ($647) depending on distance and notice.

Croatia Airlines says affected travelers should contact its contact center at +385 1 66 76 555 or email contact@croatiaairlines.hr for rebooking help. Zagreb Airport is also raising fees by 20% starting June 1, which could add more pressure to fares. Read our full Croatia guide for the complete picture.
