Cathay Pacific and HK Express ended temporary Hong Kong flight reductions on June 30, 2026, after higher jet fuel costs forced schedule cuts across Asian routes.
Regional routes took the largest hit
Cathay canceled about 2% of passenger flights from May 16 to June 30, while HK Express initially targeted a 6% reduction from May 11. Later schedule filings showed HK Express operated 11.6% fewer flights than previously planned.
The cuts mainly affected North Asia and Southeast Asia, reducing options for travelers using Hong Kong as a regional base. Some long-haul frequencies to Australia, South Asia and South Africa were consolidated, while Dubai and Riyadh passenger services remained suspended through June 30.
Regular schedules resumed after June
Both carriers said regular cancellations wouldn’t continue beyond June if fuel costs stabilized. Cathay later confirmed operations had resumed following the temporary consolidation.
Affected passengers were automatically moved to another departure within 24 hours where possible. When no suitable flight was available, the airlines offered the next available service.
