Cambodia allows online visa fee prepayment for e-Arrival users starting Sept. 1

Travelers heading to Cambodia can prepay visa-on-arrival fees online, which began on Sept. 1, ending the requirement to carry exact cash in foreign currency to airport counters.

Paperless airport processing

The prepayment option expands Cambodia's digital border network, which shifted from physical passport entry stamps to the paperless e-Arrival at international airports and seaports in July 2025. The General Department of Immigration extended the v-Pass system on Jan. 1, issuing digital visitor passes directly via email, the official mobile app and the government portal at arrival.gov.kh.

From Sept. 1, travelers can settle their entry fees ahead of departure while submitting the mandatory e-Arrival Card, which combined immigration, customs and health declarations into a single electronic filing in July 2024. The digital payment covers arrivals landing at Techo International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport and Sihanoukville International Airport, Ministry of Interior travel updates confirmed.

Ongoing overland border closures

While air hubs transition to cashless processing, overland routes from Thailand remain blocked for inbound travelers. All seven official land checkpoints connecting Thailand to Cambodia have remained closed for standard foreign crossings since June 2025, with e-Visa entry formally suspended at Poi Pet and Cham Yeam, official immigration advisories reported.

Nomads and long-term expats who historically used overland border runs from Bangkok to reset their stay must reroute through commercial flights or cross through open land checkpoints with Vietnam at Bavet or Laos at Tropaeng Kreal.

Remote workers organizing regional itineraries must budget for airfare rather than bus transfers, as border authorities continue to turn back foreigners attempting overland entry from Thailand. Anyone planning an upcoming stay should review Cambodia's entry requirements to confirm approved arrival points before booking transit.
