Australia’s visa processing shifts online

Australia’s Unified Digital Processing Environment is now live nationwide, with service targets of 15 business days for Subclass 482 employer-sponsored work visas and 25 days for Subclass 500 student visas. The system rolled out April 28, 2026 and uses digital checks to fast-track straightforward, complete applications.
The Department of Home Affairs says the platform can auto-triage low-risk files and flag complex ones for review. Incomplete applications can be refused quickly without a request for more documents.
Who feels the change
The biggest impact is on employer-sponsored workers in fields like health, construction and tech. Regional roles and jobs tied to healthcare or teaching are getting priority in the new system.
Digital nomads and tourists are largely outside this change. Australia’s visitor visas are separate and the policy update doesn't target independent remote work.
What applicants need ready
The department is still treating the targets as service levels, not guarantees for every case. Applicants need a decision-ready file, including sponsor nomination, skills checks, English test results, health and police clearances and the fee, which is typically AUD 3,000+ for Subclass 482.
Lodging online through ImmiAccount remains the entry point, but the new platform now handles the first pass. For broader context, see our visa updates and Read our full Australia guide for the complete picture.
