Armenia trimmed its temporary visa-free roster from 113 to 111 countries on July 1, extending the waiver window through July 1, 2027.
How the residency waiver works
Foreign nationals from 111 eligible countries who hold valid residence permits from specific Western and Gulf jurisdictions can enter Armenia without a visa for up to 180 days within a one-year period. The policy removes advance application steps and visa fees entirely at border control.
Eligible travelers must hold a physical card or passport sticker residency permit valid for at least six months from the date of arrival. Permits issued by the following jurisdictions qualify under the current rules:
United States
European Union member states
Schengen Area countries
Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates
Adjustments from the earlier pilot
The policy updates an initial test scheme that ran from Jan. 1 to July 1, 2026. Under the revised terms, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs removed Sudan and Yemen from the eligible nationality list, bringing the total count to 111.
The program doesn't function as a remote-work permit or tax residency scheme. Border officers verify standard travel documentation alongside the qualifying residency card, though remote workers heading to Yerevan or Gyumri must still abide by domestic labor and tax rules if staying long term.
What remote workers need to check before travel
The rule offers a practical detour for nomads holding non-Western passports who maintain residency in Europe, the United States or the Gulf. A Brazilian, Indian or Filipino national holding a German residence card or a UAE residency visa can bypass the standard Armenian e-visa process entirely.
Anyone planning travel must verify their foreign residence permit has more than six months of validity left before boarding. Border officials will deny visa-free entry if the permit expires inside that six-month window, regardless of how short the intended trip is. Travelers planning longer stays should review Armenia's entry requirements before booking flights.
