Airwallex adds Wero for instant 10 second payments across Europe

Airwallex added Wero to its European payment options in beta, giving merchants worldwide same-day EUR settlement on transfers up to €100,000 ($108,000) without a European entity.
€0.50 to €100,000 per transfer, settled same day
Wero payments on Airwallex process in EUR and settle in EUR on a T+0 calendar day schedule, per Airwallex documentation. The floor is €0.50 ($0.54) and the ceiling is €100,000 ($108,000) per transaction, well above the SEPA Instant single-payment cap that governed earlier iterations of pan-European A2A rails.
The scheme runs on SEPA Instant Payments, moving funds bank-to-bank in under 10 seconds, 24/7. For merchants, that replaces the SWIFT wire model, where a €5,000 payment can carry $15 to $50 in correspondent fees and settle two to five business days later.
What it changes for nomad-run businesses
Freelancers and small operators incorporated outside the EU can now accept instant euro bank payments from European customers without opening a European entity, per fintech coverage of the rollout. Airwallex lists Wero eligibility for businesses registered in Hong Kong, the EU, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, the US, Japan and Canada.
The practical budget math: a nomad consultant billing €4,000 a month to German clients through a US LLC has typically paid $25 to $45 per incoming wire plus a 1% to 2% FX spread if converting on arrival. Routing the same invoices through Wero into an Airwallex EUR balance drops the per-payment wire fee to zero and defers FX until the holder chooses to convert, per Airwallex's multi-currency account structure. On 12 invoices a year, that's roughly $300 to $540 in wire fees alone, before FX savings.
Shoppers on desktop scan a QR code with their banking app; mobile users get redirected straight to the app. QR codes expire after 10 minutes.
Where it works today
Airwallex's Wero is live for merchants accepting payments from shoppers in Germany and Belgium, with France scheduled to come online in October. The underlying Wero network reaches roughly 55 million users across Belgium, France and Germany, with Luxembourg banks joining this month.
Merchants must contact their Airwallex account manager to join the beta. Nomads running EU-facing businesses from outside the bloc can compare setup costs against local incorporation in the Europe guide.
