90-day limit applies to Chile's new 2-year business visa for Indians

Inside Chile's fast-track business visa for Indian passport holders
Chile activated a 2-year multiple-entry business visa reserved for Indian nationals on May 13, with each stay capped at 90 days per visit. The stream sits inside Chile's standard "permanencia transitoria" framework, so it covers meetings, negotiations, conferences and investment scouting, but not paid work for a Chilean employer.
The track runs alongside the October 2023 facilitation that already lets Indian citizens holding a valid U.S. visa with at least six months' remaining validity enter Chile visa-free for stays up to 90 days, extendable once.
Who the visa actually serves
The target is Indian business travelers who hit Chile repeatedly: regional managers, founders raising capital, investors doing due diligence and corporate teams attending conferences. A single approval replaces the per-trip reapplication cycle for two years.
Indian remote workers can use the visa for short trips tied to in-person client meetings or market research, provided income stays foreign-sourced and the principal purpose matches business-visitor rules. Pure tourists fall outside this stream and should use the standard tourist route or the U.S.-visa exemption.
Anyone planning to live in Chile, take a local job or draw a Chilean salary still needs a separate work or temporary residence permit. The business visa grants zero work rights.
What applicants need to file
Chile hasn't published a dedicated portal page for the India track, so the documentation mirrors the existing business visa workflow through the SAC consular system:
- Passport valid six months with two blank pages
- Invitation letter from a Chilean company stating purpose, duration and financial responsibility
- Cover letter from the Indian employer confirming role and return intent
- Bank statements, tax returns and salary slips proving funds and ties to India
- Hotel bookings, return flight reservation and travel insurance
- Passport photos meeting Chilean specifications
Standard business visa fees for Indian nationals run roughly 3,278 rupees ($39) for single entry and 5,931 rupees ($71) for multiple entry, though the consulate hasn't confirmed whether expedited handling carries a premium. Routine processing takes 10 to 20 working days; officials describe the new stream as faster but haven't published service-level targets. Applicants should confirm current fees directly with the Chilean Embassy before filing.
