Poland proposes quadrupling daily entry funds for non-EU nomads

Poland proposes raising daily entry funds for nonexempt foreign visitors, including visiting non-EU nomads, fourfold to 300 zlotys (about €70) from 75 zlotys (about €17 to €18). The rate would apply to every day of a planned stay exceeding 4 days, not just days after the fourth, InfoSecurity24 reported.

For visits lasting up to 4 days, the minimum would rise from 300 to 1,000 zlotys (about €233). These are funds travelers must have available, not an entry fee.

A 30-day stay would require 9,000 zlotys

For a nonexempt nomad planning 30 days under the standard rate, the required funds would rise from 2,250 to 9,000 zlotys, approximately €525 to €2,100 using the ministry's reference conversion. That means demonstrating access to four times as much money, not paying the government more.

The proposal wouldn't change the rules for documenting funds, InfoSecurity24 reported. Recognized evidence includes a bank-issued credit-card limit certificate and qualifying bank documentation, Poland's Ministry of the Interior and Administration says.

Which visiting nomads would face the higher threshold

Non-EU nomads entering for short visits on a tourist visa or visa-free route would face the higher amounts if they're subject to the standard funds requirement. EU citizens exercising free-movement rights wouldn't. Existing exemptions include travelers entering on residence cards or work-purpose visas; the proposal doesn't remove them.

Qualifying travelers with prepaid stay costs would instead face a proposed daily minimum of 130 zlotys (about €30), with a minimum total of 650 zlotys (about €152). Official guidance currently requires evidence covering at least accommodation and board for that category.

The draft entered consultation Oct. 14. Current amounts still apply. The proposed commencement period is 30 days after publication of the adopted regulation in the Journal of Laws, not 30 days after publication of the draft.

Frequently asked questions

Are Poland's higher entry funds requirements already in force?
No. The regulation remains a proposal and current amounts still apply. The draft provides for commencement 30 days after publication of the adopted regulation in the Journal of Laws.
Would a 30-day visitor need 300 zlotys for every day?
Under the proposed standard rate, yes. The total would be 9,000 zlotys, up from 2,250 zlotys under the current rate.
Must travelers pay these amounts at the border?
No. They are financial resources travelers must have available, not an entry fee. Recognized financial documentation can demonstrate access to funds.
Would residence card holders and EU citizens face these increases?
EU citizens exercising free-movement rights aren't subject to these third-country entry thresholds. Existing exemptions for travelers entering on residence cards or work-purpose visas would remain.
Does prepaid accommodation automatically mean the standard rate applies?
A separate category covers qualifying travelers whose stay costs are prepaid. Official guidance requires proof covering at least accommodation and board; the proposal would raise this category's requirement to 130 zlotys per day, with a minimum total of 650 zlotys.
