New health check rules for Cyprus Immigration Permit Categories A,F take effect

Cyprus now requires third-country nationals applying for permanent residence to submit certified medical screening from abroad before filing their paperwork, ending the practice of completing health checks after arriving on the island.

Screenings must be completed before submission

Under the updated rules from the Migration Department, applications for Immigration Permit Categories A,F submitted on or after Sept. 1, 2026, must include original, verified medical results from the applicant's home country or last country of legal residence.

Applicants must provide:

• Original blood test results screening for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and syphilis

• An original chest X-ray certifying clearance for tuberculosis

• Official certification or legal apostille on all medical paperwork, unless bilateral treaties exempt the issuing country

The screening mandate applies to primary applicants and any dependants included on the application.

Exemption rules and impact on remote workers

The requirement directly targets long-term relocation streams, including investor routes and independent financial means permits under Categories A,F. Expats moving to Cyprus under these categories must now factor extra laboratory appointments and apostille timelines into their home-country document gathering before filing.

One group avoids the extra step. Foreign nationals who already hold a valid Cyprus temporary residence permit don't need to redo the tests if matching medical results remain on file with the Migration Department.

The change doesn't alter entry conditions for short-term tourists. Cyprus' separate digital nomad scheme also operates under its own framework, though remote workers planning a transition from temporary nomad status to permanent Categories A,F permits will face the foreign medical test requirement when they submit their files.
