What PIBA extended

Israel keeps visa holders legal with automatic 3-month extensions

What PIBA extended

Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority is automatically adding 3 months to certain visas and permits expiring between Feb. 22 and May 31, 2026. The move covers holders who were physically in Israel when the rollout happened and the updated status is recognized in PIBA systems and at the border.

The extension applies to B/1 work visas, B/2 tourist visas, A/1 and A/5 temporary resident visas, A/2 student visas except agricultural studies, A/3 clergy visas, A/4 companion visas, B/4 volunteer visas and some DCL permits for family and humanitarian cases. PIBA rolled out the first round for Feb. 22 to March 31 expiries, then expanded it to Apr. 1 to May 31 expiries.

Who gains the extra time

Tourists, remote workers on visitor status, expats on work or resident permits, students, volunteers and family-linked permit holders are the main groups covered. The policy gives them lawful stay without a visit to a PIBA office, which matters for anyone whose plans were disrupted by regional security problems.

Israel doesn't have a formal digital nomad visa, so travelers using B/2 tourist status get extra breathing room if they were already in country when the extension took effect. Employers and sponsors should still be told about the new expiry date.

What to check before you move

No application, fee or appointment is needed. Hold onto your passport and visa details, then check the new expiry date against the original one plus 3 months.

PIBA hasn't announced another round by May 5, 2026, so affected travelers should keep an eye on the agency’s notices and on visa updates. Read our full Israel guide for the complete picture.
