UK drops Jordan travel warning as Intrepid restarts tours June 3

What the FCDO change means for Jordan trips
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office dropped its "all but essential travel" warning for most of Jordan on June 3, clearing the way for British tour operators to restart suspended itineraries. The advisory against all travel within 3 km of the Syrian border stays in place and the FCDO continues to warn that attacks could resume at short notice.
Major operators including Intrepid Travel, G Adventures, Tauck, Trafalgar and Exodus Adventure Travels have confirmed restart plans, per Travel Weekly. Intrepid is running departures this month. G Adventures is keeping trips paused through at least the end of July, with August onward bookable subject to advice. Wendy Wu Tours has scheduled its first group departure for Sept. 23, with more dates running into 2027.
The U.S. State Department hasn't followed suit. Jordan remains at Level 3: Reconsider Travel and the ordered departure of non-emergency U.S. government personnel issued March 2 is still in force.
Who this reaches
Leisure travelers gain back escorted tours and package holidays to Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, which the Jordan Tourism Board says are operating with enhanced security and normal services.
Expats and remote workers already in Jordan face a split picture depending on nationality. U.S. employers and NGOs often tie internal travel policies to State Department levels, so corporate trips and insurance terms may stay restricted even as UK-market tourism reopens. Travelers combining Jordan with Israel, Lebanon or Egypt still have to track separate advisories for each leg.
Practical steps before booking
Confirm insurance validity against your home country's current advisory. The FCDO warns coverage "could be invalidated" for travel into no-go zones, including the Syrian border strip.
- Register with your embassy's citizen alert system before arrival
- Check operator refund terms; Trailfinders is offering destination changes or full refunds if FCDO guidance hardens again
- Buy the Jordan Pass to bundle the tourist visa fee with entry to Petra and other major sites
- Avoid land border crossings near Syria and monitor northern and eastern border conditions
