Established by government resolution on July 1, 2026, the fund aggregates revenue from foreign visitors, licensed travel operators and outbound agency bookings. The central executive body, the Committee for Tourism Development, oversees the system to finance domestic tourism infrastructure and service upgrades.

The accommodation charges tie directly to the national calculation indicator, set at 78 somoni for 2026. Foreign guests pay the fee through registered lodging providers:

• 0.2 of the indicator (15.6 somoni or about $1.70) per day at hotels and similar commercial lodgings

• 0.15 of the indicator (11.7 somoni or about $1.30) per day at guesthouses and hostels

• 5% levy on the total value of outbound tour packages purchased by citizens traveling abroad

Accommodation providers and tour operators bundle these mandatory charges directly into room rates and tour invoices before remitting them to the central treasury.

Monthly budget impact for long stays

For remote workers and expats planning an extended stint when moving to Tajikistan, the financial impact depends entirely on lodging arrangements.

Because providers roll the duty into nightly rates, a nomad staying 30 days in a hotel incurs roughly $51 in monthly tourism taxes, while a month in a registered hostel or guesthouse adds approximately $39. Domestic tour packages also carry daily duties per itinerary day.

Remote workers who secure private residential leases directly with individual landlords bypass the daily tourist duty entirely. The tax mechanism applies exclusively to commercial hospitality businesses and licensed tour agencies, leaving private apartment rentals exempt, CABAR.asia reported.
