Qatar Updates Entry Rules for Pakistani Nationals

Qatar has suspended its visa-on-arrival program for Pakistani passport holders, effective immediately. Following a statement from the Pakistani Embassy in Doha on March 30, 2026, travelers must now secure a visa before arrival. This shift aligns with a broader trend of tightening security across the Gulf region due to ongoing Middle East tensions.

The previous policy allowed for a 30-day stay upon arrival at Hamad International Airport. Now, all Pakistani citizens, including digital nomads and business travelers, must use the Hayya platform to apply for entry. While the measure is described as temporary, no end date has been provided for when the on-arrival facility might return.

Who is Impacted

This change affects all Pakistani passport holders planning to visit Qatar for tourism, work, or family visits. Digital nomads who previously relied on the spontaneity of visa-on-arrival for short-term stays or regional border runs will now need to plan their trips at least two weeks in advance. Airlines are strictly enforcing these rules, and travelers without a pre-approved visa will likely be denied boarding.

How to Apply

Travelers should apply for a Tourist Visa (A1) or Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) through the Hayya.qa portal. To ensure a smooth process, keep these requirements in mind:

  • A passport valid for at least three months (though six months is recommended).
  • A confirmed hotel booking, often required through the Discover Qatar website.
  • A return flight ticket and a digital passport-sized photo.
  • A processing fee of approximately 100 QAR.

The approval process typically takes between 5 and 15 days. If you are planning a stay longer than 30 days, you may also need to provide proof of health insurance. It is best to monitor the latest nomad news to stay informed on regional policy shifts.
