Oman already allowed eligible nationals to enter visa-free for 14 days, but on Aug. 3 it added a separate, application-based 14-day tourist visa costing 0 Omani rials ($0).
Zero-fee visa took effect Aug. 3
Royal Oman Police Decision No. 109/2026 formally added the free tourist visa to Oman’s residence regulations. The decision was published Aug. 2 and took effect the following day.
The distinction matters. The existing exemption allows eligible travelers to enter without obtaining a visa, while the free 14-day tourist visa is granted after an application. Oman hasn’t published the new visa’s nationality list, so reports that it automatically covers all 103 visa-exempt countries aren’t yet confirmed.
The visa-free exemption remains
Nationals of more than 100 countries can continue using Oman’s established 14-day entry exemption. Standard conditions include:
A passport valid for at least two months
A confirmed hotel reservation or other documented accommodation
A return or onward ticket
Health insurance covering the stay
Some nationalities, including citizens of India, Egypt and Jordan, qualify only when they hold an eligible visa or residence permit from countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan or a Schengen state. Certain Gulf Cooperation Council residents can qualify based on their profession.
Neither route authorizes paid employment. Work visas and residence permits remain unchanged, as outlined in Stamped Nomad’s guide to Oman’s residency rules.
Longer stays depend on the entry route
The existing visa-free stay generally can’t be extended. The free tourist visa, however, can be replaced inside Oman with another paid tourist visa, subject to the relevant conditions and fees.
Travelers granted the application-based visa who intend to remain beyond 14 days must request the replacement before it expires. Visa-free entrants shouldn’t assume the same option applies unless the Royal Oman Police confirms it for their status.
