Malaysia cuts Employment Pass appeal window from 6 months to 14 days

What changed for Employment Pass appeals
Malaysia’s Expatriate Services Division cut the appeal window for rejected Employment Pass and Professional Visit Pass applications from 6 months to 14 days, effective May 15. Appeals must be filed within 14 days of the rejection at the Expatriate Committee Meeting and the online appeal tab closes once that window passes.
The change is part of Malaysia’s New Expatriate Employment Policy. It applies only to work-related passes, not tourists or short-term visitors.
Who feels the deadline most
The tighter timeline affects expats, foreign workers, employers sponsoring staff and professional experts applying for a Professional Visit Pass. Digital nomads and contractors seeking PVP status are in scope too.
Only the sponsor can submit the appeal and it has to go through the Expatriate Services Division online system. Manual submissions by email or at the MYXpats Centre are no longer accepted.
What applicants need to file
The appeal has to be complete on first submission. Supporting documents and justifications must be included up front, because incomplete filings won’t be considered and no amendments are allowed after submission.
The fee is nonrefundable once the appeal starts. Applicants also need to finish pass endorsement payment within one month of entry or approval and stay in Malaysia until endorsement is complete or the application can be canceled.
