Kyrgyzstan triggers automatic re-entry bans for visa-free overstays

Foreigners who overstay their visa-free stay allowance in Kyrgyzstan now face an automatic re-entry ban matching the exact length of their permitted visit, the Cabinet of Ministers confirmed in Sept. 2026.

Automated border tracking replaces manual exit scrutiny

Previously, travelers who overstayed visa-free limits faced administrative fines upon departure but could theoretically re-enter once fees were settled. Under the new rules, border authorities use the Unified System for Accounting External Migration (UISUM) to automatically calculate length of stay across entries, tracking visas, work authorizations and residence permits in real time.

Any traveler exceeding their visa-free window is automatically blocked from returning for a period identical to their nationality's entry allowance, with the ban starting from the date of their last exit.

For citizens of 55 countries operating under the standard 30 days within a 60-day period visa-free framework, an overstay triggers a 30-day re-entry ban. For Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) citizens subject to the 90 days within a 180-day window, exceeding the threshold without registration triggers a 90-day re-entry ban.

Fines, exceptions and status regularization

The re-entry ban operates alongside existing financial penalties and exit requirements:

• Overstay up to 1 month: 5,500 soms (about $63)

• Overstay between 1 and 3 months: 10,000 soms (about $115)

• Overstay between 3 and 6 months: 17,500 soms (about $201)

• Overstay over 6 months: 20,000 soms (about $230)

Spouses and minor children of Kyrgyz citizens who fall out of legal status receive a single-entry permit for up to 30 working days to regularize their residency, provided they present certified proof of kinship upon arrival.

Nomads and remote workers relying on back-to-back visa-free stays without formal registration face immediate disruption under the automated system. Those planning extended stays must secure official digital nomad status, register within 30 days if eligible under EAEU rules or transition to a standard residence permit before their initial visa-free window expires.
