Inside the UAE Specialized Visit Visas
The UAE has introduced several new visa categories including specialized tracks for digital nomads, AI specialists, and healthcare innovators. The update also mandates health insurance for all visit visas and clarifies entry conditions for long-term visitors.
Inside the UAE Specialized Visit Visas
The UAE has expanded its entry options with specialized visit visa categories designed for niche professional sectors. While the country continues to offer its popular one-year Remote Work Visa through Dubai, these newer tracks focus on short-term stays for AI specialists, entertainers, and event participants. These visas typically allow for a 90-day stay and are geared toward professionals who need to be on the ground for specific projects, conferences, or tech implementations.
Who the new categories affect
These updates primarily impact tech talent and the creative class. The AI Specialist track is tailored for data scientists and engineers, while the Entertainment and Event categories serve performers and those attending major international summits.
Digital nomads should note that these are not self-sponsored "freelancer" visas; they require a UAE-licensed sponsor, such as a local tech firm or event organizer. If you are a remote worker without a local contract, the established Virtual Working Programme remains your best bet for a legal long-term stay.
What you need to do
If you are planning a trip under these categories, ensure your paperwork is in order before applying through the ICP portal.
- Secure a local sponsor to initiate the application.
- Budget approximately AED 600 (roughly USD 165) plus VAT for the application fees.
- Obtain a health insurance policy that covers at least AED 150,000 in medical expenses, as this is now a strict requirement for all visit visa approvals.
The insurance mandate applies to all travelers except those from visa-on-arrival nationalities. For the latest nomad news and detailed application steps, check the official government portals or consult with a licensed PRO agent.
