The higher fee structure affects visitors who rely on multi-year, recurring access for tourism and remote work. While shorter validity periods keep their prior rates, the multi-year option reflects steep adjustments across government portals:

• Five-year e-Tourist Visa: $200 standard government fee for most nationalities and $484 for passport holders from the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

• One-year e-Tourist Visa: Unchanged at $40.

• 30-day e-Tourist Visa: Unchanged at standard seasonal rates.

Applicants must pay the nonrefundable fee online alongside a 2.5% bank transaction surcharge. Official processing doesn't offer expedited tiers, so third-party portals charging rush premiums are unofficial.

Stay caps and nomad budget impact

The five-year permit allows multiple entries but limits continuous physical presence to a maximum of 180 days per calendar year. Remote workers evaluating extended stays in India must balance the upfront outlay against their planned travel frequency.

For standard passport holders making intermittent trips across three or four years, the $200 five-year visa still provides convenience over annual renewals. However, UK travelers paying the elevated $484 rate face different math. A British remote worker visiting India once a year for three separate years spends $120 total by applying for three individual one-year visas at $40 each, saving $364 compared to buying the single five-year grant upfront.
