The plan centers on increased frequencies between Accra and Addis Ababa, plus codeshare expansion that would feed passengers into broader African and intercontinental networks.

Ethiopian Airlines already operates one of the continent's largest hub-and-spoke systems out of Bole International Airport and Ghana has been pushing to revive a national carrier and grow Kotoka International Airport's role as a West African gateway. Officials from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority have flagged the route expansion as part of wider commitments under the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).

Remote workers splitting time between West and East Africa stand to gain the most. Direct connections between Accra and Addis cut multi-leg routings that currently force travelers through Nairobi, Lagos or the Gulf, often adding 10 or more hours and several hundred dollars to a one-way fare.

Expats with business in both regions, returning diaspora travelers and tourists building multi-country itineraries through Ghana's coast and Ethiopia's highlands also benefit from tighter schedules. The expansion lines up with Ghana's $260 e-Visa and free ETA for African passport holders that took effect May 25, making short hops between the two hubs easier to book on shorter notice.
