Egypt Updates Tourist Visa Fees for Arrivals

Egypt has officially adjusted its entry requirements for travelers opting for a visa-on-arrival. As of March 1, 2026, the fee for a single-entry emergency tourist visa at airports and seaports has increased from $25 to $30.

This $5 hike marks the first price change for the service in over a decade. The update specifically impacts the 30-day renewable tourist visa obtained at immigration counters upon landing. While the cost has risen for physical stamps, the price for e-visas obtained online in advance remains unchanged at $25, offering a cheaper alternative for those who plan ahead.

Who is affected

The price change primarily impacts short-term travelers, business visitors, and digital nomads using the on-arrival service for their initial month in the country. If you are a remote worker relying on frequent visa runs or renewals, these cumulative costs will add up over time.

Expats already holding residency permits are unaffected. Additionally, the government is maintaining its incentive program for cultural tourism; visitors entering via Luxor or Aswan airports during the summer months (May through October) can still access free visas.

What you need to do

If you prefer to get your visa at the airport, follow these steps to ensure a smooth entry:

  • Carry the exact $30 fee in U.S. dollars cash, as immigration banks often struggle to provide change.
  • Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your date of entry.
  • Consider applying for an e-visa through the official government portal at least seven days before departure to save $5 and skip the bank queues.

Travelers flying with Egyptian airlines can still take advantage of free 96-hour transit visas, a policy currently extended through early 2027. For more nomad news on North Africa, stay tuned to our latest briefings.
