Czech Republic hotel stays rose 6.3% as Prague demand hits 3.8 million nights

Bookings for the Czech Republic rose 18% from May 2025 through April 2026, but the figure measures travel-platform demand rather than an official increase in hotel arrivals or prices.
Official hotel demand rose 6.3%
Czechia recorded 4.4 million guests and 11.1 million overnight stays in collective accommodation during the first quarter of 2026, increases of 5.2% and 5.7%, respectively, CzechTourism reported.
Hotels accounted for 3.4 million guests, up 5.6%, while hotel stays climbed 6.3% to nearly 8 million nights. Full-year figures show the recovery started earlier: The country hosted 23.6 million guests and logged 59.1 million nights in 2025, both above 2019 levels, according to the Czech Statistical Office.
The widely reported 18% figure comes from Amadeus Travel Intelligence and UN Tourism data covering bookings from May 2025 through April 2026. Separate reporting characterized the increase as 18.4% growth in online short-stay guest nights, so it shouldn’t be read as an 18% rise in hotel occupancy, room rates or tourism revenue.
Prague carries the heaviest pressure
Prague received almost 1.7 million visitors and recorded 3.8 million overnight stays in the first quarter, with nights rising 7% from a year earlier. That concentration makes central Prague the clearest pressure point for hotel rooms, serviced apartments and furnished short-term rentals.
For a nomad budget, the data don’t support adding a specific monthly rent premium. They do show that a 30-day stay in Prague now competes in a market where overnight demand is growing faster than guest arrivals, making availability a more immediate concern than a documented nationwide price increase.
The nomad route remains limited
Higher visitor numbers don’t expand immigration eligibility. The Digital Nomad Program remains limited to qualifying IT and marketing specialists from designated countries, along with immediate family members.
Eligible participants may work remotely for a foreign employer or freelance through a Czech trade license. Requests go to digitalnomad@mpo.gov.cz before applicants pursue the relevant long-term visa or residence route. Details on eligibility and settling in the Czech Republic should be checked before committing to accommodation, because CzechInvest doesn’t publish a complete fee schedule on its program page.
