Travelers have more nonstop options to Grand Cayman from North America, including recently added service from Austin, Ottawa and Fort Lauderdale.
Direct access expands from North America
The Cayman Islands recorded 288,694 stayover visitors from January through June, up 11.3% from the same period last year, according to Cayman Islands Department of Tourism data reported by travel publications. The increase reflects added flights rather than a change to visas, customs or arrival procedures.
Cayman Airways began its Austin-Grand Cayman route in June, while Ottawa and Fort Lauderdale service joined the schedule during the first half of the year. Airlines expanded capacity from Miami, Toronto, Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta as well.
Inbound capacity from the U.S., Canada and the U.K. rose 9% year over year in June. Travelers planning longer stays can check the Cayman Islands guide for separate information on residency and local requirements.
Canada leads the visitor gains
Canadian arrivals reached 26,674 during the first six months, a 48.9% increase. Canada’s share of stayover visitors rose from 6.9% to 9.2%, helped by Ottawa and expanded Toronto connections.
June brought 40,460 stayover visitors, marking eight consecutive months of year-over-year growth and the destination’s strongest first half on record. The higher volume is increasing demand for accommodation and services in Grand Cayman’s main tourist areas.
Travelers using the added routes should book accommodation alongside airfare, particularly for Seven Mile Beach and other high-demand areas, because expanded seat capacity is bringing more visitors into the same lodging market.
