The figure represents an increase of 268 days since Jan. 28, reversing a mid-year stabilization that saw wait times hover between 200 and 314 days through June.

Legal protections under maintained status

Applicants who submit their extension request before their current authorized stay expires receive maintained status automatically by law. This allows remote workers and visitors to remain in Canada legally under their original conditions until IRCC renders a formal decision.

• The standard application fee is CAD 100 ($73), submitted online through the IRCC portal with proof of funds and ties.

• Physical visitor record documents arrive by mail roughly six weeks after an approval decision letter is issued.

• Applicants who receive a refusal have a 90-day window from the refusal date to apply for restoration of status along with a restoration fee.
