Belgium Visa D fee rises to €250 as Flanders adds €180 charge Sept. 1

Belgium’s long-stay Visa D handling fee is now €250 ($290), up €70 ($81) or 39%, since July 1.

The higher charge covers every long stay

The federal fee applies to all Visa D categories, including work, study and family reunification, for stays longer than 90 days. Applications submitted on or after July 1 incur the higher charge, including appointments booked before the increase.

Belgium doesn’t offer a dedicated digital nomad visa. Remote workers instead rely on routes such as a Single Permit for local employment or a professional card for self-employment, as detailed in Belgium’s residency rules. Short-stay Schengen visas aren’t affected.

Flanders adds €180 on Sept. 1

Flanders will charge €180 ($209) for Single Permit applications filed from Sept. 1. The levy covers first applications and renewals for non-European Economic Area and non-Swiss nationals, while work-permit-only applications are exempt.

Employers pay the regional fee in most cases. Workers pay it for permits of unlimited duration. Payment runs through the Working in Belgium portal and an unpaid application closes after 15 days without being processed. The amount will be indexed each Jan. 1.

The regional charge sits on top of the existing €152 ($176) federal administrative fee. For a worker applying from abroad for a Flanders Single Permit, the stated government charges could total €582 ($675) once the Visa D fee is included, before municipal or residence card costs. That is €250 ($290) more than the previous €332 fee stack, a roughly 75% increase.
